Investing in Your Wardrobe - The Chelsea Boot

Boots. The essential footwear that began my whole journey of investing in my wardrobe.

BACKSTORY

Before I moved here I had these beautiful brown boots. They were the perfect suggestion of a cowboy boot without actually being a cowboy boot. They were comfy, cosy, and I loved them. I wore them all the time. With skirts, skinny jeans, leggings, and dresses. They were my best friend. The only problem- the English rain.

My beautiful brown boots could not withstand the puddles and wet leaves of a real autumn. So they started to develop a hole at the front of the sole. Four trips to the local cobbler later (thank GOODNESS for cobblers!) the woman held my boot and said, "I'm sorry, Kat, but we've repaired these four times in the past year and we just can't cover the hole anymore. It's getting too high and is going to compromise the look of the boot."

I was really sad. It was like losing a good friend who had been there for me for a good 4 years. The cobbler woman continued to suggest that when I purchase my next pair of boots that they have the kind of sole that goes out and around the boot because these are far easier to replace and won't compromise the boot at all.

THE CHELSEA BOOT

That was in 2014. It took me 5 more years before buying a pair of boots that had everything I wanted. Comfort, style, and timeless. Which brings me to the Chelsea boot, but not just any ol' Chelsea boot, a Church's Chelsea Boot

Search "the chelsea boot" on Pinterest. It just screams timeless style. Created for Queen Victoria as an alternative to high boots for riding horses, it's pretty great.

Now for the serious stuff, because these amazing boots match the hefty price tag, but using the same logic as my Burberry trench post, let's see if it passes my checklist:

- Well made using high quality and well sourced materials.  ✔️

- Well tailored. (They can be resoled within the Church's company.) ✔️

- A versatile colour. ✔️

- A good price-performance ratio. (ie. if it costs £1000 and I use it for 10 years, it cost me £100 a year.) ✔️✔️✔️

- It can be used for more than one season, occasion, and/or event. ✔️

- When wearing it, I feel empowered.  ✔️

Yep! Gosh, now I'm really looking forward to autumn!
